Mr. Burhan Nomani is a Retired Judge of the City of Houston. Mr. Nomani is a licensed attorney focusing primarily on immigration and nationality law. In 2005, Mr. Nomani served as a Municipal Judge for Detained in Jail and Non-Detained cases on a part time basis, while running his law office full time. Mr. Nomani sat until 2016 as a Judge.
Mr. Nomani graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from Punjab University in Lahore, Pakistan; a Bachelor of Science in Business from Concord University in West Virginia; a Post-Bachelorette from the University of Houston; International Law at the University of Notre Dame in London, UK; finally receiving aDoctor of Jurisprudence from Texas Southern University – Thurgood Marshall School of Law in the heart of Houston.
Mr. Nomani began his legal career under the direction of Anwar-I-Qadeer & Associates in Houston, Texas back in 1991. Mr. Nomani began as a law clerk where he developed his skill and was later given the promotion to an Associate Attorney emphasizing in Real Estate and Business Law.
Mr. Nomani has devoted the last 32 years not only to his family and his legal profession, but also to various community service projects such as the Gulf Coast Legal Foundation, Pakistan Student Association, International Student Association, Muslim Student Association at the University of Houston, Elderly Law Clinic at Thurgood Marshall School of Law, the Asian American Bar Association, South Asian American Bar Association, Islamic Society of Greater Houston, Pakistan Association of Greater Houston, American Immigration Lawyers Association, Gandhi Center, YMCA, Houston Refugee Pro Bono Project, and has served as the legal counsel for a charitable and non-profit organization from 2000 providing services to indigent members of the community every Saturday. Mr. Nomani also helped in the establishment of the Shifa Healthcare, where patients can receive medical treatment,in certain situations free of charge.
Mr. Nomani has also volunteered at the Immigration and Naturalization Service Citizen Workshops and with the help of other colleagues organized free seminars to educate the local immigrant community in the aftermath of the World Trade Center attacks. These seminars informed people of the U.S. Immigration Laws, their rights, and responsibilities. Mr. Nomani has met with a variety of government agencies to voice concerns on behalf of the immigrant community.
In his spare time Mr. Nomani enjoys traveling, intellectual gatherings, attending a variety of cultural or religious events, swimming, horse-back riding, and spending time with his family.
